Why I chose Nikon D60 over D40 / D40x? (a camera review)
A reader of my blog named Sherwin asked me on this post why I chose d60 over the other entry level DX cameras such as d40 and d40x.
I’ve answered his question there and thought to share it with you guys as well.
Here are the reason why I chose the d60.
1. its 10mp(d60) vs 6mp(d40) although this doesn?t matter if you are not into publishing/printing at least you have bigger photos in case you need them
2. the kitlens of d60 has vibration reduction which really helps a lot in getting sharper photos. Imagine this, as if you are shooting 2 -3 steps higher shutter speed than what is set.
3. the eye sensor of d60 is really a nice addition since the display on the LCD screen goes off everytime you look into the viewfinder
4. d60 also has the image sensor cleaning capability. some say that this ain?t useful but would you believe that? Nikon ain’t stupid.
5. d60?s noise reduction system is very handy for night shots
6. d60?s dynamic lighting is saves details that would have been lost on d40
7. just add 5,000 pesos and you will get a d60 since d40 at Hidalgo costs around 21,000 pesos.
So far this are the most important things that compelled me to go to D60.
If you guys would want to add more then feel free to post it on the comment then I’ll add them.
Hope it helps those who are torn between the two DSLRs
anyway, Ken Rockwell is right. You can spend less on the bodies but splurge on the lenses. Because if you really think hard about it, all that those expensive models have is ease of use and faster processing. The problem with the d60 right now is the availability of lenses. Because d60 requires AF-S lenses which have motors inside the lenses themselves. While on the other hand models like d80, d90 and d300 have the motors inside the body, so they only require AF lenses. Anyway, its a good choice since you need to familiarize yourself first using a DSLR. and I tell you, experience does not come that easy in photography. Its quite a long road. Feel free to upgrade bodies once you need it, but the lenses will still be there for you.
If you watch the latest Nikon lens releases, you’ll notice that most new lenses are AF-S. Not only that, they area Vibration Reduction (VR) lenses as well. So our D60 and D40 won’t be left behind.
So my suggestion, buy a d60, splurge on lenses (like 18-200mm VR, 55 – 200mm VRm etc), then upgrade to a new body once you need it. You could still use all the lenses you have bought. There is no better way than to start simple.
That’s all
give me a feedback if you can
