Origin of “Punks Not Dead” (Pankista in Filipino Slang)
I remember this young fellow during one of my trips to Baguio. It was the Pangabenga 2009 celebration. Well, we kinda saw this group of teenagers, and apparently they were “pankistas” or known in english as “punks”.
I wonder though where did the term originated. I tried searching over the internet but found none. I only found a synopsis of what was supposedly a movie / documentary about being a punk and where it supposedly originated.
One thing i really hate about being a punk is that some “pankistas” tend to be destructive in nature and harm other people. Do they really need to break things in order to be called one?
I strongly believe that you can be one without doing bad things. Like this fellow that I asked to take a photo, after taking his photo, he and his friend (girlfriend maybe) asked me for some money in return… But the thing is,. they asked politely and I liked that…
Well, I am not against them or whatever… It is just my opinion… I have some friend who are really nice “PANKISTAS”!
